Two ways to immediately feel inspired?  One, gather with others for transparent discussions on all the things you think no one else understands. Two, plan a trip to an exotic destination where you are reminded that you’re part of something bigger.  Two ways to immediately feel inspired?  Join me for one of my local or international retreats.

Retreating Locally

Like most great ideas, my retreats started quite by accident. I was sitting around my dining room table with a group of women who I’d invited over for a girls’ night.  I was a little nervous because of the 18 women there, only a handful really knew each other. So I devised what I thought of as a “get to know” you game.

Each woman pulled a card with a question on it, then we discussed the topic. Questions included things like “what’s holding you back” or “what did you dream of as a child” or even more pointed questions like “why are you single/married?”

Suddenly something magical happened. There was an explosion of laughter, tears, and best of all, a recurrence of “I didn’t know anyone else felt that way,” as this room of virtual strangers transitioned into a group of women who found comfort in seeing themselves mirrored in others.

Seeing the energy that comes through transparency, I started thinking about how to bring together small groups of women to experience the transformation that comes from sharing.  Little did I know that my friend, Career Coach Lashana Williams, was at the very same time declaring a similar mission.  When we realized the synergy of our journeys, in late 2012, we combined visions to create YANA (You Are Not Alone) Retreats.  The response has been phenomenal!

Retreating Abroad

Many years ago I discovered how much I enjoy traveling.  In fact, I’ve even traveled by myself to as far as Europe.  What I’ve found is that although I love exploring by myself, I also love having someone to share a meal with or to call with a question.  Knowing there might be others who feel the same, I now organize trips for those who want to be inspired by seeing the world, want the security and energy of a group, but also want to spend time on their own personal retreats.
